Hi there Chuck Squire here
I hope you had a great Christmas and you're looking forward to a great 2011..I usually don't make resolutions for the new year..'cause I can never keep 'em..But I promised myself to at least be more honest with myself in 2011...To do the things I say I'm gonna do and do them well!!!..(I wonder how long it will take me to break that promise?)

Good Luck!!

The one thing I hate about fall semester: By the time finals are over and I can finally enjoy the holiday season, there are only a couple of weeks left. Oh well, only one more fall semester for me. Students across the state have either just finished finals or, in the case of CU students, are just about to start. This picture is an accurate reflection of my appearance and current state of mind. Send me your positive energy as I work through the next week with very little sleep and gallons of coffee. Good luck students everywhere!!

It's supposed to get real cold this week.. like single digits wed and thurs nite...My problem is, we try to get our outside christmas decoration up during Thanksgiving week...I bet the ground will be frozen..makes putting spikes in the ground to hold the deer and stuff rather difficult...Oh well..eat well and nap!

the NEW flying turkey trot

Is that a drumstick in your pants or are you just glad to see me?
Propelled by the new viral video where dude proclaims "If you touch my junk, I will have you arrested" to the TSA guy, there is a growing backlash against these full body scanners or the full body pat downs at some airports. Because we need the extra precautions if we want to fly safely.
And of course Thanksgiving and the upcoming Christmas break are BIG flying holidays, there are going to be many who will discover the joys of the full body pat downs for the first time. Lucky them.
This will likely end up in a MUCH discussed argument over basic dignity and rights of travelers VS the right to be safe in the air. It seems that airlines have gone out of their way to make flying the LAST option for travel, what with higher costs, seemingly smaller seats and aisles, charges for baggage, crazy flight attendants (see Steven Slater) and downright rude passengers.
So..I guess we just have to make the best of it. If you are traveling by air this holiday season, just prepare yourself for the indignity of it all, and keep in mind the smiling faces of family and friends as the world is exposed to your innards on the scan, or as grandma gets felt up for the first time since WWII.
Hmmmm Greyhound is starting to sound pretty good afterall.
Happy Thanksgiving !!!

Hi Chuck Squire here
I finally got the rest of the leaves out of my yard..another 7, 45 gallon bags of leaves..I think all in all about 16 bags of leaves....Wow is my back sore...It's very cool to have the shade and greenery of these trees in the springs and summer...but the payback is having to rake up all the leaves in fall and winter.
I wish I had a hot tub!!!!

HiYa~ I must be having a mid-life crisis here because all of a sudden I have turned in to quite the health nut. I have quit smoking after 22years and am scared the first time I have a drink I will go back.. I have also been working on my body more in the last 4 weeks then I ever have in my life. I joined Farrell's Extreme BodyShaping and have taken off 2 inches on my belly and 5inches total on my body..I am more impressed that I shaved 2 min off my mile run. I am positive that by quiting smoking I will shave even more time off in the end. I don't know what has come over me but atleast these are good habits that I am taking on and ditching my bad ones.

HiYa~ Well almost 4 weeks into my training with Farrell's Extreme Body Workout and I can see the difference in my body. I have gained some solid weight but yet my clothes are falling off of me. It is the most bizzaro thing. My size 8's will eventually turn into size 6's and I will feel the way I look, Great. The only thing I can never understand is why people who you always see at work and in life will never ever compliment you (not for nothing) but then you have that one person that no matter what you look like always tells you just how pretty you really are. I will take that one compliment everyday and forget everyone else.

HiYa~ So shortly after I got back from Jamaica I began my new work out regime with Farrell's Extreme Body Workout. It is a 10 week (kick your ass into gear) program that really changes your body. I work out 6 days a week and a super committed to changing the little love handles into a lean mean fightin' machine! I was 2 weeks late into the program but feel as if I will see the results I seek with the 8 weeks I have left. The older I get the harder it is to stay in shape and so this is going to work out great.. I hope you think of making a commitment like this to get healthy and fit once and for all. I will keep you posted and at the end will share before and after pics:)

Our cat, MISSY B, caught 4 birds in the past 3 days..and brought them inside to show us. Only 1 was dead..the others, we were able to capture, take them outside and they flew away(kinda)...Anyway ,with that bob cat and her kittens on the prowl again in the Rockrimmon area.. might be a good idea to keep your kids and animals close to the house if you can!!

HiYa~ I'm back.... What a GREAT vacation to Jamaica! I love to travel and learn different cultures and see new places and this trip was no different. I learned the average wage in Jamaica was about 40 US dollars a day. They don't care for their dogs and will run them over and don't feed them, of course this made me sad! I will say Jamaica is a beautiful island and country. I saw where Mick Jagger has a house. The mountains are quite the scenic view. Anyways, enough for now.. I missed ya'll.

On a recent "60 Minutes"(that tv show)..they had a segment on Bill Gates and his wife..It was about how they were giving away 90 BILLION DOLLARS....to mostly undeveloped countries to help prevent aids, malaria and helping pay for some kids here in the US to go to college( and something else)..How cool is that...If I had that kind of money I think I would do something similiar...I mean if you've got 94 BILLION DOLLARS and you give away 90 BILLION, that still leaves you 4 BILLION DOLLARS...
I'm gonna go buy a lottery ticket!!

I have FALLEN..and I can't get up

ahhh FALL!
My favorite time of year. Weather chills a bit..that "crisp" feel in the mornings and at night. Football is ragin. The leaves are a changin'. The fall TV shows are up and running. What ya watchin'? so far..I am into the third season of FRINGE..Sons of Anarchy..a new show called the EVENT (pretty good for an NBC show :)) ...HBO has Boardwalk Empire which is still building..Kenny Powers is back that dude you either love or hate :)
Don't know if its climate change or what..but the colors seem more vibrant in the mountains this year..more oranges and reds. Poppin yellows. Hurry before the leaves fall off. Take the bike out or make that trip to Cripple Creek..worth the drive.
The scary movie season is heating up..Case 39 looks CREEEEEEEPY ...Let Me in..My Soul to Take..some good ones coming. I love to chill and watch the classic old stuff too. Halloween approacheth. What wild ideas will be out there for costumes? some seriously creative peeps out there...makes it fun!
Nothin like a Sunday watchin the Broncos. Still not sure that Josh McDaniels was the right guy..we need to get some mojo back in Bronco nation.
Oh and got to do the "fall feeding" for the lawn..or so the Scotts commercials tell me.
Time to get up!

I drove up to Cripple Creek this past weekend...WOW...The colors were so brilliant.
especially the Aspens...I got out and stood among the trees...and it sounded like gold tinsel hitting together(no I wasn't stoned)....If you haven't had the chance to go up there yet, I hope you can go in the next week or so...also we had planted about 60 or 70 flowers this summer..in the front and out back on the deck...Well the cooler nights finnaly took a toll on 'em...so it was time to pull 'em and put up all the pots and hanging baskets...till next spring.

The Summer That Won't Die?

Next weekend we'll be into the month of October, but the weather still says August. This certainly is one of the hottest summers I can remember. I know a lot of people who are ready for the warm dry weather to be over. As for me, I'm okay with this summertime stuff for a few more weeks. As long as leaves are starting to fall by Halloween, I'm good!

Hi
If you're mountain bike rider..you know many of them don't come cheap...and some of those bike racks that attach to the back of cars are not very secure. I had one of those racks for about a week ...but the straps kept comming off...and I don't want one of those bikes to fall off!!! So now, I gonna get a trailer hitch on my car and carry my mountain bikes that way. The racks that attach to the trailer hitch look to be pretty secure and easy to load the bikes on!!
But to put a trailer hitch on a car or truck ain't cheap!!!This mountain bike ridin' is turning out to be much more expensive than I had thought...but some of the bike trails, like up at the Air Force Academy ,are so beautiful and fun to ride....So to get the bikes there ..you gotta haul 'em there.....so I guess that's just the way it is!!..

Hi
Chuck Squire here.. These pix are from my recent vacation to Playa del Carmen(south of Cancun)..There is this place called XEL-HA...It's a freah water river that runs into the ocean..It's like a big water park where you can float down the river to the ocean..and the most important thing you do there is snorkel...the sting ray was very graceful and had a huge stinger on his tail...now here's the story on the BARRACUDA
You rent a locker at XEL-HA to put you wallet, shoes.. etc in and they give you a key..they have you put the key around your neck on a lime green draw string...so you won't lose it...okay? I came across the Barracuda..about 10 feet from shore...he was just sittin' there ..very still in the water...I'm takin' pictures of it...when I noticed it kinda changed its position and was lookin directly at me ..I could see its eyes kinda gettin bigger...then I realized I had this gold key around my neck ..it was like a LURE!!!!!..So I backed off very slowly and swam away..I thought about this later and considered myself lucky...I don't think it could have eaten me..but it could have taken a big bite....

Time to Start Thinking About Halloween!!

It's still roughly 6 weeks away, but Halloween's the first thing I think of heading into fall. I haven't done the costume thing in a while. I was thinking of maybe Alfalfa from "Lil Rascals" or maybe one of the characters from the new TV reality show "Swamp People". All I would need is a gut, a dirty t-shirt, and some them "Billy-Bob Teeth"!

there was 9/11...then there was 9/13
watching these real time replays of the news coverage as it happened that fateful morning of September 11th 2001 is still very unnerving..those billowy clouds of smoke rising from the doomed Towers. The scramble to get information on the air...sometimes wildly inaccurate (as you guess in the ensuing chaos). The sense as you watched the coverage on TV that this was something more..something developing that we could not imagine.
Back then I was hosting the Mark Bros morning show on KKFM..our discussion that morning had centered on the Broncos-Giants Monday night game the night before. But then that first plane struck...and then minutes later the second, And nothing would ever be the same for any us , ever again.
I have two lasting impressions of that week. One was coming home on that Tuesday and not hearing any air traffic ( I lived out by the airport at the time) and it was eerie. Except for one sound: jets on patrol high above us. It still sends chills down me to this day. Just that sound of military air patrols...cascading through the skies.
The other lasting impression was Thursday 9/13. At KKFM and the other Citadel stations there at Tiffany plaza..we decided to set up shop outside the building and do a fund raiser for the American Red Cross. We really didn't know what to expect. What we got , to this day remains for me the single most amazing radio memory I have. Hundreds..thousands maybe came by and donated. Some just wanted to talk. Shake some hands...got out of the house and see real people and not watch any more painful TV coverage. We went over 13 hours straight until it got too dark to channel traffic into the lot. I remember looking up and seeing a wall of headlights on Woodmen that still wanted to come by and donate and ...touch people.
To this day it remains the most amazing , incredible display of honest emotions and feelings and sadness and human spirit I have ever been privileged to be a part of . The amount of money raised was staggering $500,000 plus..but it was the sheer "human-" (is there such a word?) that has stayed with me all these years.
Let us never forget . Let us always strive to be better people and honor those who sacrificed and were lost, both that terrible day, and the years since in the two wars
We all recognize and have our own very personal recollections of 9/11. It forever changed things then , and continues to do so, to this day.

Hey
Back from my vacation...I had a great time in Playa del Carmen. It's about 45 minutes south of Cancun. This is my 4th time there...The resort is located 2 blocks from 5th Ave, where there are about 2 miles of shops and bars and clubs and grat places to eat!...The ocean was so clear...the water was up to my face and I could still see my feet on the bottom....But it was hot and it is great to be back!!!
I took some pictures of the fishes while snorkeling...I'll up load for ya in the near future.

throwing FIRE ..how could that go wrong?
Labor day weekend is HERE..traditionally the unofficial end of summer. How was yours? Mine seemed to fly by..if you go by the measuring sticks of Memorial day to Labor day..it was crammed full o' stuff. We began with Territory Days(crazy but fun)..segueing quickly into Springspree..both LONG hours for us here at KKFM. Did the Royal Ride for the Renaissance , motored over to Country Jam for a weekend in Grand Junction. Fourth of July..some vacation time in there..back for a CRAZY night at Cowboys for Bret Michaels..then in LaJunta for Eddie Money and WAY too much fun...couple of stops at our friends at the DOUBLE EAGLE and whewwwwwwww:))
Now Labor Day weekend and the State Fair. Lots of live broadcasts, Queensryche and American shows..Monster Trucks and Demo Derby . whew! and FOOTBALL is here. Air Force kicks off its season, prepping for the big BYU game on 9/11. Toss in some pre-season Bronco games,,Sky Sox and Rockies and of course the GREAT Drive In Auto Sound Summer of Sound KKFN 25th concert series (including Rush..the Scorps..Heart..Black Crowes and more great shows ahead) and YES it was a rockin summer
which brings us to this..we have the balloon classic and great festivals all year long. El Salvador has the FIREBALL FESTIVAL,,to commemorate a volcanic eruption, groups toss FIRE at each other. While on the surface my first reaction is SWEET!!!--maybe the balloon glo might be a little safer.
Party RESPONSIBLY everyone..make your plans NOW. be safe. and NO FIRE THROWING.
happy LABOR DAY! enjoy

Steven Tyler Does It Again!!
Recently at a show in New York, Steven Tyler whacked Joe Perry in the head with his microphone. At about :08 into the video, you can here the "doink" when the mike makes contact with Perry's dome.

What's wrong with me.??
WAIT ...wait. No need to answer that. one word; PLENTY! :) but I reference this particular "wrong" in today's blog back to the worst guilty pleasure of recent memory known as JERSEY SHORE.
Yes..i along with millions of other knuckleheads are watching a bunch of slugs from JERSEY SHORE infest the Miami South Beach area with their particular brand of ...well, actually I am not sure what these peeps do. Other than struggle with horribly contrived "drama" of Ronnie and Sammi Sweetheart. and drink. A LOT . at various clubs .
Yes are learinng about "grenades"(not so attractive womens) and the "GTL" (gym tanning and laundry for the uninitiated). But nothing else. and I do mean nothing else. Rarely have I ever seen a show about so little occupy so much attention . Snooki gets arrested for public drunkeness and (this is true) ANNOYING people. love that. I would actually like that charge on my "permanent " record. Ronnie is a neanderthal who rammed his head into the wall while trying to get into bed . OK..that one made me laugh.
So what is it about these lunks that makes us watch? for the life of me..I cannot answer that question. There is that thing about "not being able to turn away from a car wreck" and I guess that will have to suffice for now. oh wait..I think JERSEY SHORE is on...uhhh. gotta go.

We are suppose to have a pretty dry weekend according to Matt Meister (our local weather man) so should be fun! I hope you have a great weekend and we will chat later:)

Went for another bike ride on my new mountain bike...WOW..I never realized how cool the bike trails are here and around the Springs. I took the Santa Fe trail from around Woodman and I 25 Sunday....rode down past Mr Biggs...and I would have gone further but I felt rain drops so I turned back...but it was very cool...rode across a couple of bridges ....creek below......I think I'm gonna start taking pix and maybe upload a few so you can check it out.

Take this job and SLIDE....
VIVA LA REVOLUCION....introducing America's newest folk hero..media sensation..Jet Blue flight attendant STEVEN SLATER...
By now, you know the story. Rude passenger. Droppin F bombs--then the ultimate exit..deploy the emergency chute, grab two beers and SLIDE! Race home..get arrested, Become and overnight sensation, get released into a phalanx of photogs and press. Get over 150,000 Facebook followers in a day and a half.
Welcome to the new world. Many will try and assign reasons we have embraced this dude. I think it is simply untold frustrations with our own situations ; be it a work or the usually terrible flying experience, or whatever may drive us to the brink of rebellion!
Steven simply had enough. Think Samuel L Jackson in Snakes on a Plane: "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!" or the great NETWORK from 1976 " I'm as MAD as HELL and I'm not gonna take it anymore!!" Was it wrong? technically yes. Dangerous? OK. maybe. but it has caught the attention of a frustrated, sick of rudeness and bad customer service fatigued nation.
I predict the late night talk shows. Movie deal. Reality show. its what we do these days. Heck if those clods on Jersey Shore can have a career..then go STEVEN!
and VIVA LA REVOLUCION!!

Hey
I went for my first mountain bike ride Sunday...I remembered how to ride a bike ..but I was kinda shakey at first...Oh ..I learned very fast that it's a BAD IDEA to try to make a quick turn on a wet gravel trail..slid sideways and crashed..
It can only get better from this point on!!!Right?

Chuck Squire here
Well, I decided to buy a mountain bike. I've thought about it for a while and finally took the plunge. There are so many great trails around here. Now I have to get a bike rack, water bottle holder, pump...helment...I want one of those helments that looks like a brain....Do they still make those?
See ya on the trails!!

Summertime!!

The world's oldest college student, as I've been called by some of those I work with, will finish another summer of classes at UCCS this next week! Two weeks off then it's back for fall.

CAGED HEAT..and MEl too..
Man...celobrities have always been kinda nuts. It's what makes em fun. Poppin up in the tabloids, we constantly shake our heads. "with all that money you would think ...." but maybe it is PRECISELY because of that money things go off the rails.
Look...I have done some pretty stoooooopid things myself over the years. Made judgments I would LOVE to have back .But that said, I have never gotten off a great psychotic rant like my man MEL GIBSON has recently. He has several to his credit..but this latest telephone tirade caught on tape is priceless. Scary as hell but priceless. The man is a great director of movies (tell me Braveheart and Apocalypto aren't masterfully made)..an actor of note, a hollywood mogul. but CRAZY as all get out.
My girl LINDSAY LOHAN is another story all together. Her early movies suggested a promising career ahead. BUT....(and there's always a but isn't there) another teen gone wrong story soon began to emerge. Nutty parents didn't help. The culture of being chased by the wacked out do anything for a picture tabloids and TMZ folk ..the partying ..and finally the disregarding of her probation..BOOOM she is now delicious CAGED HEAT. not for long . but the sight of her in orange jumpsuit..whoa .
Sometimes with all the bad in the world (BP..the endless wars...the recession etc) having a nice little distraction like crazy celebs is not such a bad thing ,:))

I guess when she visits her dad in Texas she buys a ticket from the same store and always wins. She lives in Las Vegas so you know what she is doing with her winnings, probably winning more at the craps table:) I played again this morning so let's see if I will be Wednesday Powerball Winner! the CHICKEN FLY celebrates 25
As you probably know..KKFM is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. There is another 25th of note, just up the pass and thru the mountains in lovely GUFFEY ...yes it's the 25th celebration of the THE CHICKEN FLY.
Whaaaaaa? It is not a "so help me god i thought turkeys could fly" moment. Rather, chickens are gently stuffed into mailbox contraptions.."plunged" out, and then their flight distance is measured. No harm..no fowl.
Listen this week on my show for my interview with promoter Bill Sioux about this very event. It is happening Sunday the 4th...so if you are planning on some unusual ways to celebrate Independence Day, this might be for you!
watch the fireworks --it is still VERY VERY dry out there. if you are lighting your own (and you know who you are) BE CAREFUL. don't spend the 4th in the ER!
HAPPY 4th!!!!

Well Mondays are always interesting..I'm sure you've had a few interesting Mondays!!
Here's how mine went...Started out as usual..up at 4am...to get to the radio station...tied to open the garage door..it wouldn't open....one of the springs was broken..okay....Now I had to get my girlfriends car to get to work(luckily she parked in the driveway)...couldn't find my keys to her car....I had to wake her up..she got cranky... I got the keys..but had to stop to get gas...Finally got to the station on time....finished work...went out to her car to go home....the key wouldn't open the door....had to call a locksmith...finally got the door open...came home...our cat had caught a baby bunny rabbit..(2nd one we know of this year).. the bunny was in bad shape so I had to do the humane thing and put it out of it's misery...So later on I decided to cook some ribs on the grille...While trying to open the pakcage of ribs...they fell out on the ground...washed 'em off..put 'em on the grille....just as I was about to turn them over, the propane ran out....So we wound up having peanut butter and jelly samiches for dinner...Just a typical Monday I guess.!!!!

ready...aim...FIRE!!

Ronnie Lee Garner ,sentenced to die in UTAH,,,electing to go with the firing squad. pretty sweet. Reminds me of Gary Gilmore wayyy back .
Is this more "humane" than say lethal injection? what about more old skool methods like hanging..or ridin the lightning of the electric chair?
The Green Mile is one of my favorite movies, but THAT scene..(and if you know the movie..you know THAT scene) of the electrocution gone awry leads me to the conclusion that maybe ol sparky is NOT the best method. Also, people appear to be able to come back and hauunt you incessantly afterwards (see movie SHOCKER).
Death by firing squad seems quaint and ...oddly endearing to me. Look, these executions can be debated ad infinitum over moral ambiguities of should we or shouldn't we...BUT if some dude elects to go with the firing squad, I say sweeeeeeet.
Beats some of the older methods of drawing and quartering..boiling in oil...head removal by axe..burning at the stake..even hanging ,despite its allure in the old west..seems not so much by comparison.
Rock on with your bad self Ronnie Lee.

I was grocery shopping over the weekend..a task that I don't mind , but I like to get in and out as soon as possible...in my opinion,k it's not a place to socialize...especially..if your waitng for the register clerk to start scanning your groceries..So anyway, this lady in front of me was just talking away at someone she knew...I mean, not just a hello , but they were like having what I call a catching up conversation...AFTER THE CHECKER ALREADY RANG UP ALL HER STUFF...Then the checker had to ask her to please pay and move along so others could be checked out...Then she couldn't find her check book or check card whatever? It took me about 20 minutes from the time I entered the lane ...to stand in line behind 2 other people and then this woman...My ICECREAM MELTED!!!

Hey
Finnaly got a bunch of flowers planted in my yard...Well not in my yard, but in flower boxes and barrels. It's not hard work, but it takes a bit of concentration. Those little plastic containers that hold those starter plants, are made like crap. Although you can tear them be hand, they don't break down evenly. So I know I killed a bunch of plants while trying to get them out of those plastic containers...
So I planted Sunday, a deer already ate some plants from the front yard barrel..

Well, now that there's mostly reruns on tv...I started watching West Wing again..I've seen it twice before...But it moves so fast and has so many great actors and so many great lines, I'm hearing things and seeing things I missed the other times I watched it. If you haven't seen West Wing and you don't like reruns, take some time watch a couple of episodes ...see what you think.

I am soooo glad "LOST" is over...I became tired of trying to figure it out. I thought the final episode "THE END" was boring and dis-connected..I was hoping it would end with the island disappering or maybe the whole series was just somebody's dream....Anyway, now I'm not a slave of Lost anymore.... I relly liked the first 2 seasons..but then the threads became to thin ..I loved the imagination of the writers..but for me it became to convoluted!

Spill baby...spill...

soooooo...this oil spill in the gulf is horrible. Not just for the marine life and the inevitable destruction of the shrimping industry, but it comes at a time when New Orleans, Biloxi and the rest of the gulf coast are STILL in recovery from Katrina.
It's almost like "really?" Of course the the loss of life is very sad as well. And this week during congressional hearings the execs of the three major companies that had something to do with the construction and placement of the oil rig did the usual finger pointing, though BP said it would pay "legitimate" claims.
But how do you quantify the loss of tourism? the loss of a lifestyle of shrimp boats and fishing and beaches ? Offshore drilling has always been risky, but this is a devastating blow to the region. And the sad thing is it may come back to lax regulation, bad design or just plain recklessness.
I have always had a soft spot for this part of the country..making several visits to NO and Biloxi too..prior to Katrina. And now this. It makes the heart break.

HiYa
As many of you know it is Spring Time in the Rockies! This tree in my front yard only blooms every other year and smells delightful when you walk by it. I just had to snap a shot before I came to work today.. It look much more beautiful in person. I love my yard both front and back and work very hard to make it feel as if you are in Gieverny France (it is where Monet's gardens are).

HiYa- My dad, Papa John was in for a visit! We had a wonderful time and I realized that the older I get the more things I learn from him, the more he was always right growing up. I guess the saying is true nobody loves you like your mom and dad and I love both of them soooo very much and miss them terribly! I learn business tricks, I learn personal growth tricks, I just feel like I am a sponge when he comes to town.. I have been having many lemons thrown my way recently and instead of making lemonade I have resolved myself to making lemon drops! Thanks to my dad for his great advice and always checking in when we are sooo many miles apart!

Tebow...or not Tebow...that is the question

well..wow! it what is surely the most talked about Broncos draft in a LONG LONG time..Thursday night the blue and orange took Florida QB Tim Tebow in the first round..after taking a stud wide receiver before that. So Josh McDaniels continues to remake the team--getting rid of Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall and Tony Schefler. All big talents...all big whiners.
Clearly McDaniels and the Broncos are pursuing a different type of player. But pause for a moment. Now we have Orton, the newly acquired Brady Quinn and Tim Tebow at the helm. Despite some decent numbers, Orton is less than inspiring. Quinn in unproven. and Tebow..well never has a QB so polarized the draftniks!
I am a little uncomfortable with the biblical references Tebow shows us in his eye glare paint, but there is no question the kid is a winner and a worker. Because there was soooo much consternation about his "throwing motion" and his arm strength, no doubt he will carry that on a BIG chip on his shoulder when he shows up at Dove Valley.
So what did we get with Tebow? National champion...Heisman winner...big time college QB..good character guy..leader and someone who will outwork anyone next to him. And..I was worried why? Only time will tell..but on the surface, I am beginning to like this pick.

HiYa- Well John Nicholas Kavali arrived on Wednesday at 6:31pm weighing in at 7lb 14oz and 21 inches long.. We at the Kavali house are sooooooo excited to meet our new bundle of joy we can't see straight. This is the first time I have become a blood-aunt and it is the first grandchild for our parents.. They are over the moon! Babies are sooooo cute and if "Jack" grows up to be half as good looking as my brother the ladies better watch out:)

As the masters took to the tv yesterday, the Kavali household had a mini masters in our backyard. We have rules when playing croquette and they are pretty simple you must play with one hand and have a drink in the other also we have a dog rule which states if any of our 4 dogs pick up the ball and move it you must play from where they drop the ball. We always have a AWESOME time! Here is a pic of some of my girls Steph, Wendy, myself and Sarah! Round two of the Kavali Master's takes place the 25th!

BEHOLD! .....it's backkkkk

YES! not a particularly religous sort, I nonetheless always look forward to the annual presentation of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS! this 1954 epic Cecil B Demille film is truly a spectacle! So over the top...so filled with classic moments , both dramatic and funny (sometimes unintentionally). CLASSIC cheese from a woefully miscast Edward G Robinson as Dathan (Where's your messiah NOW ??? a line often imitated , including by Chief Wiggum on the Simpsons).
Yul Brynner's hands on hips Ramses II never fails to delight, as does Anne Baxter's sexy and melodramatic queen in waiting. BUT of course it is THE MAN...Charlton Heston who sets the tone..with that bellowing baritone BEHOLD HIS MIGHTY HAND...this is one for the ages! Long before the days of excessive CGI...DeMille had to cast 1000s for huge scenes of the Exodus..figure out a way to part the Red Sea (still holds up pretty well) and make it rain fire .
I remember watching this movie as a family when i was much younger , and exclaiming "all right MOSES!" when Charlton rushed to the aid of the harassed women shepherds(which featured the stunnin Yvonne De Carlo)..my dad found this quite amusing and repeated that line every time over the years we watched that movie!
Happy Easter Passover and Charlton Heston day! :))

DAMMIT!..Chloe...We are. running out of...
TIME!
Yes...it is true. This is the last season of Fox's 24. After 9 years, and countless Jack Bauer-isms (DAMMIT!) this is it for Jack. Let's face it, the show has had its ups and downs. Some seasons have been better than others. I think i even bailed on a year after seeing the mini-nuclear explosion in LA. BUT---24 came roaring back to life last season with an addictive storyline , which introduced us to Jack's newest "interest" Renee Walker. (LOVE me some crazy Renee). This season has been struggling at times. but the last few weeks (hours) have started to heat up.
One of the fun things about 24 has always been its outlandishness and this season is no stranger to that. Apparently ANYONE can get hired at CTU (I'm lookin at you Dana Walsh). Drinking games have sprung up over the years revolving around famous Jack lines (we are running out of time! SON --OF--A --BITCH!...I'm not gonna ask you again..) and honestly,. didn't you always get a little giddy with excitement when Jack entered into some interrogation room ALONE with a suspect..or disabled a camera. You JUST knew something ass kicking was coming.
But alas like all great shows. we actually ARE running out of time. So enjoy some over the top action, incredulous coincidences, lax CTU security and cell phones that seem to work ANYWHERE. and the real time format was cool as hell. it seemed this show was so ,,,2000's . great villians, moles, and pretty sweet Presidents too. gonna miss you 24.

ANOTHER classic 25th Anniversary..

This morning , I saw a promo on AMC for the Clint Eastwood Classic PALE RIDER...yes another great movie celebrates its 25th anniversary! Much like KKFM this year, other classic films are celebratng 25, including the timeless Breakfast Club (mess with the bull..you';; get the horns) and the first Back to the Future.
there is something pretty special about celebrating 25 years, as we are discovering with our own 25th this year. Its long enough to generate a LOT of memories, but still fresh enough to be (mostly) remembered. Of course in the case of movies, the fact we have seen our favorites time and time ...and TIME again (i have seen Pale Rider dozens of times) reinforces the magic.
Clint made a similiar pic in 1973 called High Plains Drifter in which a mysterious gunman arrives to save a town but really is there to get revenge. Then years later comes Pale Rider..again a mysterious gunman arrives to save the miners from the despotic Coy LaHood(played with a great snarl by Richard Dysart)..this time Eastwood is in the guise of PREACHER ( love the echoing Preeeeeeeeeeeeeeecher Preeeeeeeecher in the wind). In this movie Clint's great skills as a director are even MORE on display. There are great visual touches, odd camera angles, layered storytelling moments and a beautiful setting , plus the uusal humor (nothing like a good piece of hickory!) and in the end, justice is served.
PALE RIDER truly one of the classic Eastwood films!
I think I am liking these 25th anniversaries!

HiYa~ Yesterday was SOOOOO much fun at the 15th Annual Media/Chef Comp. I cooked with some real professionals Ben and Ethan from the Craftwood Inn. Jeff was also on hand just in case but let's just say 3 very good cooks took #1 Entree and they received a medal and a sweet knife set.. I would have loved to had the knife set. Ben will really enjoy them as they were not a cheapy set. Anyways, here is to another week of LOVE with Double Down Double Plays and your chance to share in a $25K Pay day from The Double Eagle Hotel and Casino and we here celebrating 25 years of KKFM Goodness!!!!

I Still don't get Curling...
well chalk up another Winter Olympics games! This time to often too warm but gorgeous city of Vancouver BC was the host, offering up the usual mix of compelling dramas, achievements and emotions. Starting with the unfortunate death of the Luger..making officials re-think and then re-configure the run. The ongoing saga and eventual "catfights" involved with Lynsey Vonn and later Julia Mancuso. And whatya know? Bode Miller lived up or even went beyond expectations this time!
The dramatic finish to the USA-Canada gold medal game in hockey was a worthy contender for best moment. But i think that has to go to Joannie Rochette, the brave beyond words women's figure skater who fought through the enormous emotions she battled after her mother died suddenly after arriving in Vancouver to watch her daughter compete.
There were thrilling moments and dull moments and odd moments and LOTS and LOTS of commercials..clearly NBC was trying to recoup their overbidding for the rights to broadcast the games. The mercurial weather of Vancouver played a bit of havoc with the contests at times, but man what a two week promo for that beautiful part of the world.
The opening ceremonies were both fun and..and as i described before, "spinal tap-esque"
with that uncooperative 4th hydraulic leg surrounding the flame. Still it was cool to see Wayne Gretzky holding that torch. And it's always interesting to watch sports that you would never watch in a thousand years (like bi-athalon or speed skating or ski cross or skeleton or....well you name it
And i STILL don't get Curling. but yet...i watched. and enjoyed. on to 2014.

Hey
Are u watchin the Winter Games...I got hooked...Pretty cool...but the one thing that I think they can improve on, is the music the ice skaters use..It sucks...I mean it's so stuffy..hardly any classic rock at all...there's great talent on the ice, but I think if the music was more dynamic it would make that portion of the Winter Games feel more current.

Hi Chuck Squire here
A few days ago,I reported on a story about someone collecting blankets for homeless vets...I applaud these people for doing this...but what distrubed me was why would a vet be homeless...They served our counrty, defended our freedom...why and how could this happen...Sometimes, I think we don't really appreciate those that defend our freedom and way of life.....That makes me angry!!!!

why I'm still single
Happy Valentine's Day...
So, I get this question a lot. Why are you not married? I really have no good answer..you know, this and that...I have met some really terrific women over the
years. Mostly they wised up and went on to bigger and better things. ;)) I have
lots of great women friends. I have some classic "one's that got away" stories
too..so really I have no good answer to that question.
MAYBE..the answer is in the mathematical formula i discovered online.
HAPPY HEART DAY :))

HiYa~ Well this week has been rather unusual for me. I have been really trying with this one co-worker to be nice, friendly and jovial in some ways and yet this person is just a pure out right A%&^#&**(ll. I know everyone has that one person at work that you just will never get along with and I have certainly found mine. On a sadder note my grannie was sent to the hospital today, she is 92 and still has it up stairs but her body is going down hill every day.. My thoughts and prayers are with her so if you can please send a little well wish her way too. And other than all this above everything is Sunshine and Unicorns!

Where wolf? THERE wolf....
that great line from Marty Feldman (EYE-gor) from Young Frankenstein leads us into the weekend of the WEREWOLF...the new movie is out Friday with Benicio Del Toro as the WOLFMAN with a cackling Anthony Hopkins...from the trailer ( I WILL KILL ALL OF YOU!!!) this one looks great..
Got me thinking about other fave werewolves over the years...beginning the all time classic "The Wolfman" with Lon Chaney Jr in 1941. I think the Wolfman met Frankenstein a time or two..Abbott and Costello may have stumbled across ol Wolfie as well...
Maybe the greatest horror/comedy flick of all time An American Werewolf in London is hard to beat..the transformation scene , even in this era of obsessive CGI effects holds up particulary well, thanks to David Naughton's pained expressions..I also like The Howling..Wolf (with Jack Nicholson) Underworld attempted a new spin on the relationship between werewolves and vampires..we are promised a werewolf theme in the upcoming True Blood season and, though I haven't seen it, the Twilight sequel apparently is heavy on werewolves.
but SOMEHOW I missed this one...WEREWOLF in a WOMEN's PRISON!!! of course the rule of thumb is that ANY movie character tagged with ..."in a women's prison" is automatically better..so now i have to track this one down!
Enjoy your weekend...watch out for the thing that lurks in the shadows...

its time to PARTY New Orleans Style
okay, i have to admit that the buildup this week has been relatively calm for Super Bowl 44 (is that LVIX?)...there hasn't been a lot of hype coming out of Miami this week. I think this is because these teams are two of the model franchises in the NFL..players tend to NOT get into trouble, the coaches are class acts; the quarterbacks (Brees and the unflappable Peyton Manning) are elite and also great guys. It is interesting that the Manning family has such close ties to the city of New Orleans...and that the time the Saints (mostly a moribund franchise until recent memory) FINALLY make it to the big dance, they would go up against a MANNING led team.
Most have the Colts running away with it...I have a soft spot for New Orleans and the gulf coast in general, and given what that region has gone through since Katrina ,my heart is with the Saints. WHO DAT NATION!! there is always a fighting chance when emotion enters the fray. Against the robotic precision of Manning, it will be a gargantuan task for Brees and the Saints...but...there is one point that maybe no one else had examined.
THE CHARLTON HESTON factor!!! YES...CHUCK baby! in the movie NUMBER ONE (see PIC) in 1969 he played a QB (Cat Catlin-how about that name? ) for the New Orleans Saints.(and wearing Billy Kilmer's actual helmet) Yes, he gets crushed in the movie's final scene..but is Chuck gotdammn HESTON! the HESTON factor nets the nod...
SAINTS WIN !!!! SAINTS WIN!!! ahhhh to be in the Big Easy after that.....whoooooooDAT!

HiYa~ So what did you think about the Grammy's? I thought they were pretty darn great except when Taylor Swift and Stevie Nicks got up to do their thing.. Okay here is the thing, Stevie Nick is a tough act to follow or to sing with, Nick's has one of the best and most distinguishable voices in all of rock history.. Well Taylor botched and I mean botched up Rhiannon and all the fans immediately started Facebooking so.. In my opinion she really isn't that great of a singer but even more so standing on stage with a seasoned professional and class act.

If you can dodge a wrench..you can rob a bank
Okay..this one caught my eye over the weekend. 78 yr old actor RIP TORN arrested for attempted bank robbery..well, he was in a bank apparently drunk..and with a gun! So,that charge seems to make sense..
What is up with RIP?? some other run ins with alcohol of recent , including a DUI charge would indicate maybe there is a bit of problem here. Ya think? But it does make you kida want to party with that dude !
most of us know Rip from his turn in the Men in Black movies..a great stint on the Larry Sanders show in the 90s..and more recently in Dodgeball ( if you can dodge a wrench BAM! you can dodge a ball)
Curious, I looked him up on imdb.com...listed are 178 movies and tv shows dating back to 1956.. with that gravely voice and hangdog face..the man was a great character actor. the mugshot pictured here is...ughhh..rough to say the least.
So..good luck to my man RIP TORN in all of this..I hope he doesn't end up having to dodge Bubba , his new cell-mate!
