Spill baby...spill...

soooooo...this oil spill in the gulf is horrible. Not just for the marine life and the inevitable destruction of the shrimping industry, but it comes at a time when New Orleans, Biloxi and the rest of the gulf coast are STILL in recovery from Katrina.

It's almost like "really?" Of course the the loss of life is very sad as well. And this week during congressional hearings the execs of the three major companies that had something to do with the construction and placement of the oil rig did the usual finger pointing, though BP said it would pay "legitimate" claims.

But how do you quantify the loss of tourism? the loss of a lifestyle of shrimp boats and fishing and beaches ? Offshore drilling has always been risky, but this is a devastating blow to the region. And the sad thing is it may come back to lax regulation, bad design or just plain recklessness.

I have always had a soft spot for this part of the country..making several visits to NO and Biloxi too..prior to Katrina. And now this. It makes the heart break.
