I Still don't get Curling...

well chalk up another Winter Olympics games! This time to often too warm but gorgeous city of Vancouver BC was the host, offering up the usual mix of compelling dramas, achievements and emotions. Starting with the unfortunate death of the Luger..making officials re-think and then re-configure the run. The ongoing saga and eventual "catfights" involved with Lynsey Vonn and later Julia Mancuso. And whatya know? Bode Miller lived up or even went beyond expectations this time!

The dramatic finish to the USA-Canada gold medal game in hockey was a worthy contender for best moment. But i think that has to go to Joannie Rochette, the brave beyond words women's figure skater who fought through the enormous emotions she battled after her mother died suddenly after arriving in Vancouver to watch her daughter compete.

There were thrilling moments and dull moments and odd moments and LOTS and LOTS of commercials..clearly NBC was trying to recoup their overbidding for the rights to broadcast the games. The mercurial weather of Vancouver played a bit of havoc with the contests at times, but man what a two week promo for that beautiful part of the world.

The opening ceremonies were both fun and..and as i described before, "spinal tap-esque"
with that uncooperative 4th hydraulic leg surrounding the flame. Still it was cool to see Wayne Gretzky holding that torch. And it's always interesting to watch sports that you would never watch in a thousand years (like bi-athalon or speed skating or ski cross or skeleton or....well you name it

And i STILL don't get Curling. but yet...i watched. and enjoyed. on to 2014.

Hey
Are u watchin the Winter Games...I got hooked...Pretty cool...but the one thing that I think they can improve on, is the music the ice skaters use..It sucks...I mean it's so stuffy..hardly any classic rock at all...there's great talent on the ice, but I think if the music was more dynamic it would make that portion of the Winter Games feel more current.

Hi Chuck Squire here
A few days ago,I reported on a story about someone collecting blankets for homeless vets...I applaud these people for doing this...but what distrubed me was why would a vet be homeless...They served our counrty, defended our freedom...why and how could this happen...Sometimes, I think we don't really appreciate those that defend our freedom and way of life.....That makes me angry!!!!

why I'm still single

Happy Valentine's Day...

So, I get this question a lot. Why are you not married? I really have no good answer..you know, this and that...I have met some really terrific women over the
years. Mostly they wised up and went on to bigger and better things. ;)) I have
lots of great women friends. I have some classic "one's that got away" stories
too..so really I have no good answer to that question.

MAYBE..the answer is in the mathematical formula i discovered online.

HAPPY HEART DAY :))

HiYa~ Well this week has been rather unusual for me. I have been really trying with this one co-worker to be nice, friendly and jovial in some ways and yet this person is just a pure out right A%&^#&**(ll. I know everyone has that one person at work that you just will never get along with and I have certainly found mine. On a sadder note my grannie was sent to the hospital today, she is 92 and still has it up stairs but her body is going down hill every day.. My thoughts and prayers are with her so if you can please send a little well wish her way too. And other than all this above everything is Sunshine and Unicorns!

Where wolf? THERE wolf....

that great line from Marty Feldman (EYE-gor) from Young Frankenstein leads us into the weekend of the WEREWOLF...the new movie is out Friday with Benicio Del Toro as the WOLFMAN with a cackling Anthony Hopkins...from the trailer ( I WILL KILL ALL OF YOU!!!) this one looks great..

Got me thinking about other fave werewolves over the years...beginning the all time classic "The Wolfman" with Lon Chaney Jr in 1941. I think the Wolfman met Frankenstein a time or two..Abbott and Costello may have stumbled across ol Wolfie as well...

Maybe the greatest horror/comedy flick of all time An American Werewolf in London is hard to beat..the transformation scene , even in this era of obsessive CGI effects holds up particulary well, thanks to David Naughton's pained expressions..I also like The Howling..Wolf (with Jack Nicholson) Underworld attempted a new spin on the relationship between werewolves and vampires..we are promised a werewolf theme in the upcoming True Blood season and, though I haven't seen it, the Twilight sequel apparently is heavy on werewolves.

but SOMEHOW I missed this one...WEREWOLF in a WOMEN's PRISON!!! of course the rule of thumb is that ANY movie character tagged with ..."in a women's prison" is automatically better..so now i have to track this one down!

Enjoy your weekend...watch out for the thing that lurks in the shadows...

its time to PARTY New Orleans Style

okay, i have to admit that the buildup this week has been relatively calm for Super Bowl 44 (is that LVIX?)...there hasn't been a lot of hype coming out of Miami this week. I think this is because these teams are two of the model franchises in the NFL..players tend to NOT get into trouble, the coaches are class acts; the quarterbacks (Brees and the unflappable Peyton Manning) are elite and also great guys. It is interesting that the Manning family has such close ties to the city of New Orleans...and that the time the Saints (mostly a moribund franchise until recent memory) FINALLY make it to the big dance, they would go up against a MANNING led team.

Most have the Colts running away with it...I have a soft spot for New Orleans and the gulf coast in general, and given what that region has gone through since Katrina ,my heart is with the Saints. WHO DAT NATION!! there is always a fighting chance when emotion enters the fray. Against the robotic precision of Manning, it will be a gargantuan task for Brees and the Saints...but...there is one point that maybe no one else had examined.

THE CHARLTON HESTON factor!!! YES...CHUCK baby! in the movie NUMBER ONE (see PIC) in 1969 he played a QB (Cat Catlin-how about that name? ) for the New Orleans Saints.(and wearing Billy Kilmer's actual helmet) Yes, he gets crushed in the movie's final scene..but is Chuck gotdammn HESTON! the HESTON factor nets the nod...

SAINTS WIN !!!! SAINTS WIN!!! ahhhh to be in the Big Easy after that.....whoooooooDAT!

HiYa~ So what did you think about the Grammy's? I thought they were pretty darn great except when Taylor Swift and Stevie Nicks got up to do their thing.. Okay here is the thing, Stevie Nick is a tough act to follow or to sing with, Nick's has one of the best and most distinguishable voices in all of rock history.. Well Taylor botched and I mean botched up Rhiannon and all the fans immediately started Facebooking so.. In my opinion she really isn't that great of a singer but even more so standing on stage with a seasoned professional and class act.

WOW....GRAMMYS SUNDAY NIGHT...PINK WAS AMAZING...REMEMBER WHEN SHE WAS LOWERED INTO THE WATER..CAME UP SPINNIN AND SPEWIN WATER OVER THE AUDIENCE.(I DON'T KNOW IF HER AIR SHOW HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE SONG) BUT..HOW COULD SHE KEEP SINGIN' AND NOT THROW UP!!!!!I THOUGHT JEFF BECK WAS GREAT TOO..I ALSO LIKED THE FACT THAT WE GOT TO SEE AND HEAR MORE MUSIC...RATHER THAN A BUNCH OF "THANK YOU'S"...THAT'S MY TAKE ON THE GRAMMYS
